Salary: £50,000 – £55,000

Be Involved with:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and deliver a forward-thinking ICT strategy aligned to organisational goals
- Build a multi-year roadmap covering systems, infrastructure, and digital services
Operational Excellence
- Oversee day-to-day ICT operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and user satisfaction
- Lead IT service management, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement
- Ensure systems and services meet the needs of staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
Digital Transformation
- Drive innovation through the adoption of new technologies and improved systems
- Lead key transformation projects from concept through to delivery and review
- Improve how digital tools support both internal operations and external services
- Looking to move from Google to a M365 environment
Security & Compliance
- Own cyber security strategy and ensure robust protection of systems and data
- Maintain compliance with GDPR and relevant regulatory frameworks
Supplier & Budget Management
- Manage ICT budgets, ensuring value for money and effective resource allocation
- Oversee third-party suppliers, contracts, and service delivery agreements
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience leading an ICT function, ideally within a complex or service-driven environment
- Strong background in infrastructure, cloud services, business systems, and cyber security
- Experience developing and delivering ICT strategies and transformation programmes
- Demonstrable success in managing teams, suppliers, and budgets
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at a senior level
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach with the ability to balance strategy and delivery
Desirable:
- Experience within the not-for-profit or public sector
- Certifications such as ITIL, PRINCE2, Agile, or Microsoft/Azure
- Experience of transformations to M365
- Experience helping set up communication and networks in large events.

As a Principal Engineer / Tech Lead, you'll work with cutting‑edge technologies, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the development of scalable, cloud‑ready applications.
What You will do in the Principal / Teal Lead role
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable backend services using Java, Spring, Hibernate, and related technologies.
- Define database structures, write efficient SQL queries, and ensure best‑practice data management.
- Build complex, high‑performing frontend applications using React and modern UI patterns.
- Integrate frontend and backend components through RESTful APIs, ensuring seamless interaction and performance.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold high standards for code quality, performance, and security.
- Use GitHub for version control and contribute to CI/CD pipelines supporting automated builds, testing, and deployments.
- Work with cloud and container technologies; AWS experience is a strong advantage.
- Leverage emerging AI technologies.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including developers, product managers, and domain experts, to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand‑ups, and retrospectives.
What we require to progress candidates for the Principal / Tech Lead opportunity
- 7+ years of professional experience with Java and React, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
- Strong expertise in full‑stack Web development, including object‑oriented programming, design patterns, and data structures.
- Deep understanding of scalable system architecture and modern development best practices.
- Ability to solve complex problems with creativity, ownership, and critical thinking.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with a proactive, positive approach.
- Ability to act as a technical leader in a fast‑moving environment, (prior start-up / scale‑up experience is highly desired)
- Ability to learn quickly and understand complex business requirements with minimal guidance.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Have practical experience or personal passions to engage further with AI experience of Anthropic / OpenAI is a strong plus
