Solutions Consultant (MSP)
Glasgow – Hybrid
Competitive, c£65-75k DOE
About the Company
We're partnered with a well-established Managed Service Provider who have built a reputation for dependable infrastructure, cloud, security and connectivity delivery, underpinned by a disciplined, standards-led approach. Now they're investing in an in-house project capability, and this role sits right at the heart of that growth.
The Opportunity
This is a senior, client-facing consulting role at the sharp end of the business. You'll sit with clients, understand what they're really trying to achieve, and shape that into a designed, priced project the team can deliver, then stay close to the work so what lands matches what was promised.
It suits someone with genuine technical delivery experience who has since moved into consultancy without losing that grounding: credible in front of a business owner one minute, holding your own in a detailed design conversation with engineers the next. Where a project needs senior technical input, you'll roll your sleeves up rather than hand it off. There's a clear progression path on offer too, as the business's Customer Success framework matures.
Please note:
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
- We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
- Hybrid working from Glasgow
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead technical conversations with client stakeholders and decision-makers, translating business requirements into a technical direction they understand and buy into.
- Present options, trade-offs and costs with confidence to non-technical audiences, acting as a trusted advisor at the point of decision.
- Turn technology alignment findings and client goals into designed solutions, working with project engineers on detailed scope and pricing.
- Provide accurate effort and cost input so proposals are priced to protect margin.
- Provide senior technical oversight from handover through to delivery and closure, working hands-on wherever a project calls for senior input.
- Hold the client narrative through delivery, making sure what's delivered matches what was sold, and raise scope, risk or change with the project team early.
- Build and maintain a forward technology view for your client base, briefing and debriefing the engineers who carry out regular technology alignment audits.
- Develop and grow a vCIO function for named clients as the Customer Success framework matures, shaping standards, client-facing materials and QBR processes.
- Support the sales team with technical credibility on new/existing client opportunities.
What We're Looking For
- A technical delivery background; infrastructure, cloud or networking, thereafter, followed by a move into a consulting or solution design role.
- Proven experience designing and scoping IT projects for SMB clients, including writing proposals and statements of work.
- Broad, current knowledge across Microsoft cloud, on-premises infrastructure, virtualisation, networking and security, sufficient to hold a design conversation and challenge a scope.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present technical options in plain language to business owners and directors.
- Strong commercial skills, understanding how scope, effort, price connect to margin.
- Comfortable getting hands-on where a project needs it, rather than purely advisory.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
Useful, but not essential:
- Experience within an MSP or IT services environment.
- Familiarity with TruMethods or a similar structured MSP service delivery framework. (HTG, ConnectWise, Kaseya, UBR, MSP peer group, IT Nation Evolve, CompTIA MSP)
- Experience with Autotask, HubSpot or similar PSA and CRM platforms.
- Experience building multi-year technology roadmaps and budgets for SME clients.
- Vendor certification across Microsoft, VMware or a major firewall vendor.
Why This Role?
- A senior seat with real influence over what gets sold and how it gets delivered. This isn't a hands-off advisory role, and it isn't a delivery seat either; you'll be in the detail, close to the outcome, and your judgement will carry weight.
- No sales quota or commission attached to this role. New business targets sit with the sales team, and you bring the technical credibility that helps win the work.
- A clear structure, defined measures, so you know exactly what success looks like.
- A genuine, defined progression path towards vCIO seat as Success framework matures.
- Investment in your ongoing certification and technical development.
Package
- Salary: c£65-75k dependent on experience
- Location: Scotland, (Glasgow – hybrid) with client-facing travel
- Contract: Permanent, full-time
- Additional benefits: confirmed at offer stage

Are you an experienced Project Engineer looking for a role where you can take full ownership of customer projects from start to finish?
