Hardware Engineer

Hardware / Electronics Engineer

Edinburgh Hybrid

Are you an electronics engineer who wants your work out in the real world — deployed in the field, built to last, and protecting critical infrastructure?

Our client designs intelligent systems that monitor and protect  in some of the most demanding environments out there. We’re looking for a Hardware (Electronic) Engineer to design the embedded hardware at the heart of these systems, where quality, long field life, security and ruggedness aren’t nice-to-haves — they’re the whole point.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll own embedded electronic hardware design from architecture through to field deployment, working closely with Customer Delivery, Sales, QA and the wider engineering team.

  • Design embedded electronic hardware — schematic capture, PCB layout and bring-up — for rugged, field-deployed IoT edge devices.
  • Take designs through the full lifecycle, from concept and architecture to prototyping, validation and production handover.
  • Engineer for long field life, reliability and security in harsh, real-world operating environments.
  • Select components and design for manufacture, cost, supply-chain resilience and certification.
  • Carry out testing, debugging and design verification to ensure performance and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively across Customer Delivery, Sales, QA and engineering to deliver robust, deployable products.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven embedded electronic hardware design experience, including schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Strong grounding in analogue and digital circuit design.
  • Experience designing for ruggedness, reliability and long field life in demanding environments.
  • Familiarity with hardware security considerations and designing for certification/compliance.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to prototyping, testing and debugging.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a close multidisciplinary team.

Why Join

You’ll have real ownership across the full hardware lifecycle, work within a close multidisciplinary team, and see your designs through from schematic to deployment — protecting infrastructure that matters.
